16 June, Friday
Sitting on a train headed to Utrecht (Holland) then Una (Germany). Last night we had a great time in Amsterdam (most of us) but it ended early. Took Rob & Matt to get DeKonnick, and later Duvell. … Crashed around 9pm … Got mom a book at the Anne Frank House.
18 June, Sunday
Been having a great time in Holzwickede. Friday night went to a huge graduation party. Kind of expensive but had a great time. 15 DM to get in but we only got two free beers before they started charging 2DM per glass. Good time dancing. There was a mosh pit. I guess that's pretty usual. Tried Feigling, a .02 Liter (very small) bottle of fruit vodka.
Have a cold sore named Calvin. He spread to the bottom lip, but I think he's going away. Have had it 3 days. It bothers me more than it should. At least it gives the others something to tease me about.
Yesterday went to Dortmund to watch the soccer championship. They won and it was a huge party in the middle of the city. It was crazy. To bad it was raining & I had Calvin. Also, I should have brought a camera. There were 2 cranes holding up a giant screen TV in the center of town. Now I know how people can get trampled and killed in big groups. I can't even explain how crazy it was. Had a good time.
Last night went to UNI, a night club (actually more of a bar) in Unna. Had a great time (again, Calvin bothered me). I swear all the beautiful girls in this area go there. Here's an unusual story for any American in Germany, not to mention Ted. Ted met a girl and was getting along with her very well. Anyway, after she left, Ted got a call in the bar. She called Ted at UNI from home, and the bartender found Ted and put him on the line. We though that was pretty cool. Maybe we'll go back there tonight. Oh yea, we decided to walk back home afterwards. We thought it would be an hour walk. Turned out to be much longer. It was daylight when we got home.
Kai's family is treating us so well. We get a bed to sleep on, and big meals. They have been very "tolerant" of us. I wish there was something we could do for them. I will at least send them a thank you card.
"They" (our group) have a little game going where you get points for doing various things (points are bad). Anyway, I'm losing big time. I think they like to pick on me. I guess I am pretty easy to make fun of. They decided that the first 3 days when they were in Brussels and I was in Ireland, I was lost, so they assessed me points. To vote you need at least 5 people present and 3 of 5 must vote in favor of points. Oh well, just roll with the punches.
Kai showed us around town today. Saw a church (Catholic the Protestant) from the 7th century. Also say a house that used to be a castle. There was a moat around the house. Very pretty. That also reminds me, there is much open land out here. It is very green & pretty. The Menzels live in a very nice area of the country. They hav a miniature pond out back (or in front, whatever it is). There are lily pads and fish in a pond which is about 5 feet wide at the most. Tomorrow we head to Berlin. Hopefully Calvin will be almost gone. Also, I want a hair cut.
